(You, the one reading this article!)
Have you ever wondered: why in advertisements YOU are special?! You and your problems are what matter to them; for their sales and profit.
I’m not saying that you’re not special and that your problems aren’t important, I just want to highlight the ego’s need to be glorified.
What I want to tell you is that, in the advertisements that promote personal loans (but not only, but it’s a blog about financial education J) YOU are the one who wants all your wishes to be fulfilled and, how else but quickly (and the larger the amount needed, the better) and, even, without a salary certificate.
The need to be special and the money involved in this game
If in school, the ego’s need to be glorified was not satisfied, now, there are those who do marketing to highlight you.
You! Only you are special and millions of other people like you. You are the one who is guaranteed the most advantageous interest on credit and only you will be given the money quickly and safely, without other guarantees; only with your ID card. Being special, you quickly need the money you do not have, to fulfill those desires that give you even greater satisfaction (you and your Ego).
Your Ego will be satisfied if others see that you have money to go on “luxury” vacations. Also, if you have returned from vacation and no longer have money for daily expenses, the ego will be satisfied to find other money to spend. Being special, all your needs are “special” and will need money to be met. Money will come in large quantities and quickly through a personal loan. It’s no problem if you haven’t stuck to your budget and haven’t restricted your expenses. A special person like you doesn’t have to worry about his money, but only about himself and the fulfillment of his desires.
I bet your ego would be satisfied if, for a short time, he could enjoy a walk outdoors with his loved one just to have the financial opportunity to adequately support his family in the long term. To have money for luxury vacations, for financial security and independence, to support his child’s studies and a high standard of living, without worrying about the money he has to repay. Or maybe your ego will suffer deeply if in old age you have money in your account, just to enjoy luxury cruises?!
Marketers pump the ego’s need to be satisfied into their advertisements. And, because they want to increase their sales, they resort to influence strategies, based on the desires of the here and now. Their sales can’t wait. Call now or come to the nearest branch counter now to get your money (requested as a loan).
After the deed and the reward
The whole life works on the basis of action and consequences. We act and receive a reward, either now or later, but it will be paid.
Your action of borrowing money brings you a reward: ego satisfaction. The same act brings you long-term interest that you will pay the bank for the borrowed money: between 8 and 14%, compound interest. The bank will not lose by lending you money. It will never regret lending you money, because the bank will get it back. In return, you will most likely regret it.
Although you might say that there is a possibility that the bank could lose, regarding an amount of money lent to a person who does not have the income necessary to repay it, you are wrong. This situation of non-repayment is very unlikely, since the costs of a personal loan (see the article: “How a personal loan works” – Laurentiu Mihai blog link) help the bank recover the borrowed money. Even the AEGRM cost borne by the client gives the bank the possibility of stopping the existing savings accounts in the name of the contractor. Thus, the bank will not lose. The one who is special, in such a situation, is you, who loses. With the passage of time, you lose, paying the installments for something you no longer have.
If you bought a car on credit, after five years, when you are barely finishing paying it off, it has long since lost its good market value. After five years, the car generally needs to be replaced. You paid for almost two cars, but you have to buy another one. More money, more fun! But at least you valued your ego. It was the most gained from this whole “deal”. And the bank. You will return to it to lend you money for a new car. Your friends will admire you. You will make more friends and you will be esteemed. But at what price? Is it worth it?
You are special! (You, the one reading this article!)
You are special because you are reading this article from the Psychology of Money blog, because you choose to inform yourself, because you read about financial education and personal development; aspects that are not discussed in school or on TV. You are also special if you choose to filter the information and control yourself. You need to be aware of your needs and set your priorities in life. You need to know yourself: to know your limits and possibilities. Everything in life has a limit. Sooner or later you will find that limit. The secret is to know it in advance. To know that it is there and not to try to neglect it.
Financial education makes you special and you will be appreciated, as such, when everything you own is exclusively your property or you manage to manage both your needs and desires well, so that you are satisfied with everything you have, without feeling the need to impress just for the sake of passing remarks. The one who has a new car, will soon be overtaken by someone else with an even newer car. In the car industry, precisely to satisfy the ego’s need to impress, new models are released on the market, shortly after.
Success in money awareness!
