“Seriously, I can handle it!”
“Why do I need a financial advisor?” Do you want to make my budget, tell me how to spend, buy my house or invest? What, I don’t know what’s best for me?! I can handle it myself!”
Romanians are a “clumsy” people. These are the answers you hear when you recommend people to talk to specialists.
Back in the past
I am a financial consultant, and my passion is psychology. The financial field and psychology are two fields in which I have seen that “people don’t need” specialists. “They know what’s best for them”, because “why should I go to a psychologist, am I crazy?!”. Many psychologists have started to change this prejudice, and people have started to consider it appropriate to visit a psychologist, even when they are well, when they are happy, because they also need to manage their happiness. A psychologist is a friend “accredited” to be of use to you when you encounter difficulties. And, as I was saying, it is a good idea to go to a psychologist even if you don’t have anxiety or depression. It is for your own good, to manage some important aspects of your life, to be, everything, at the superlative.
Consulting is a challenging field in Romania. Especially when we talk about money. Money, still, is a taboo subject. This subject is sensitive. A financial consultant is someone who gives you a perspective on your entire financial situation. He zooms out and sees the entire perspective, identifying where you can work and how to do it to be efficient. He is the one who gives you his time so that you do not allocate effort and time in searching for solutions, by groping. He guides you in managing your finances in relation to what exists in the financial market: opportunities and risks.
People do not want to hurt themselves. But they do not accept going to a specialist because the human being is one who, from a young age, wants to be independent. Did you listen to your parents when they advised you something? Did they tell you to wear something and you did? Did you want to fall asleep at 8:00 PM or continue watching cartoons? Did you like brushing your teeth and did you listen to your parents when they told you to do that? No! So why go to a specialist and listen to their advice? The best lesson is the one learned from your own mistake! Correct! But do you want to waste time and money, finding the best solution through trial and error? Do you allocate 5, 10, 15 years to make mistakes in order to succeed?
Discussing with a specialist you know that he will guide you in a clear and safe direction. Although you know that it is good to do it, you still don’t do it. You’ve heard this before, right?!
Yes, that’s why you don’t decide to go to a consultant. He reminds you of your parents who guided you on what to do. A specialist will not oppose when your solution or plan is good. If so, he will give you the certainty that your procedure is the most appropriate. On the other hand, if it is not, he will guide you to the best path.
Money Specialist
A financial specialist is like a doctor. It is appropriate to go to prevent, especially, because otherwise, no matter how good he is in this field, he can no longer help you. If you go to him when you can no longer pay your loans, when you no longer have a job and, possibly, your wife is pregnant with their second child (which means increasing expenses), his advice will be null and void for the time being.
Just like in medicine, people choose to go to a specialist when it is serious. As the Romanian saying goes, as long as the knife hasn’t reached the bone: “it works like that!” It’s just that it damages your health (and your financial health) in the long run.
Therefore, prevention, also in the financial field, is important. Go to a specialist before you “feel” that a specialist is needed. If you go to a builder when you have the money for a house, you don’t go to a doctor when you have an illness, although I know that’s what happens most often, but you go in advance to prevent it. The same goes for a financial consultant.
Just as it is good for every person to know at least one lawyer, doctor, plumber, electrician, etc., it is also necessary to know a financial consultant.
Perhaps the lack of information in the financial sphere has led to a lack of awareness of the importance of a financial consultant in your life. It is true that this profession is not very well known. People believe that only the rich need the services of a specialist in this field and they do not dare to know or call on a financial consultant. But you don’t need to have a lot of money to need a financial advisor. Just because you work and earn some money, have some needs and desires is enough to need to turn to a personal finance specialist. Everywhere you go, you are told what possibilities you have to spend your money. Advertisements help you spend money on things that in the long run do not bring you satisfaction. So, what happens to the important things in your life? Are they postponed to purchase what others have to sell?
The benefits that a financial advisor brings to your life are related to managing your personal money, so that you act according to your needs now and later. It helps you achieve your financial goals efficiently and optimally, getting the best return on your money and the greatest satisfaction.
Independence and self-esteem
The expression: “I can do it myself!” comes from the desire to be independent. We want and seek independence all our lives: in our personal and professional lives, and, as such, we reject any form of assistance that can endanger our independence. In the area of independence, some aspects related to the need to be esteemed also appear. Somehow, help comes to harm this self-esteem. The emotion that is released when a specialist comes to tell you what to do is one of helplessness and frustration.
It is necessary, for health, not just financial, to accept that you are not at all inferior if you request the help and advice of a specialist in a field in which you have no expertise. Everyone has expertise in a certain field. And you are a specialist in your field. And those who do not have expertise in that field come and seek you out, asking for your advice. It is perfectly normal not to know everything. And that is why we have different interests: to access different fields, to specialize and become experts in the field in which we enjoy working. Working in different fields, we cover a wide range of specializations and each one contributes, through their profession, to the development of the community of which we are a part.
Each field, each profession has its purpose. Each brings certain benefits to the others and there is esteem and respect for each specialist individually.
Success in becoming aware of the specialists in the market and identifying the value that each one can offer you!
Success in becoming aware of money!
